Brooks, Gwendolyn (Elizabeth)
(7 jun. 1917, Topeka, Kansas, EE.UU.–3 dic. 2000, Chicago, Ill.).

Poetisa estadounidense. Criada en los suburbios de Chicago, Brooks publicó su primer poema a los 13 años. En 1949 ganó el Premio Pulitzer por Annie Allen (1949), una serie de poemas vagamente relacionados entre sí sobre la experiencia de crecer en Chicago, y se convirtió en la primera mujer de color en recibir ese premio. The Bean Eaters [Los comedores de habas] (1960) contiene algunos de sus mejores poemas. Entre sus otros libros figuran In the Mecca [En La Meca] (1968), el autobiográfico Report from Part One [Reporte de la primera parte] (1972), Primer for Blacks [Cartilla para negros] (1980), Young Poets' Primer [Cartilla para poetas jóvenes] (1981) y Children Coming Home [Los niños vuelven a casa] (1991).
